Start with your pattern's recommended needle size, then choose the style that fits your project. Circular needles are useful for sweaters, shawls, blankets, and knitting in the round. Double pointed needles work well for small tubes such as socks, sleeves, cuffs, and mittens. Single pointed needles are a simple choice for flat pieces such as scarves and panels.
Fixed circular needles have tips permanently attached to one cable, so they are ready to use right away. Interchangeable needles let you pair different tip sizes with different cable lengths, giving you more flexibility for projects that change size or require several needle lengths.
Compatibility can vary by product line, tip length, connector size, and set type. Please check the product description before ordering replacement tips, cables, connectors, or stoppers. If you are unsure, email us with the product name or a photo of your current set and we will help you choose the correct parts.
Wood needles feel warm in the hand and offer a gentle grip, which many knitters like for slippery yarns. Metal needles are smooth and fast, making them helpful for tight stitches or yarns that need more glide. Carbon fiber and other modern materials are lightweight and strong. The best choice depends on your yarn, your tension, and the feel you prefer while working.
Choose a cable length that is shorter than or close to the circumference of the piece you are knitting in the round. Longer cables are useful for large projects, magic loop techniques, and holding many stitches. For flat knitting, pick a length that comfortably holds your stitches without crowding them.
Thread the tip onto the cable by hand, then use the tightening key if your set includes one. Insert the key into the small hole at the cable join and turn the tip gently until it feels secure. Avoid forcing the join, as over-tightening can damage the connector.
Keep wooden tools dry and store them away from direct sunlight, high heat, and humidity. Wipe them with a soft dry cloth after use. Do not soak wooden needles or hooks in water, use harsh cleaners, or leave them under heavy items that may bend or damage the tips.
Wipe metal tools with a clean dry cloth before storing them. Keep connectors, keys, stitch markers, and small parts in a pouch or case so they are easy to find and less likely to be scratched or lost. If a join feels rough, stop using it and contact us so we can help review the issue.
Yes. Beginners often prefer smooth wooden or bamboo-style needles because the stitches feel more controlled. A simple circular needle, a crochet hook in a commonly used size, and a few basic accessories are enough for many first projects. If you are choosing tools for a specific pattern, send us the pattern requirements and we can help match the size and style.
Knitting needles, crochet hooks, scissors, pins, and small accessories are crafting tools and should be used with appropriate supervision. Keep sharp tips and small parts away from young children and pets when not in use.
